Dallas Athletes Represent Team USA in Greece Through Cultural Exchange Wrestling Program

This past June, Dallas High School was proudly represented on the international stage as Coach Austin Markee, senior Nathan Ramirez, and freshman Carson Langford traveled overseas as part of a USA Cultural Exchange Wrestling Team. The group spent two weeks in Greece, first exploring the historic city of Athens before traveling to the island of Crete, where athletes trained, competed, and immersed themselves in Greek culture. The trip was part of a prestigious cultural exchange program that combines international travel, cultural immersion, and high-level wrestling. To earn their spots, Ramirez and Langford had to qualify through a competitive cultural exchange tournament held in April — an impressive accomplishment in itself. Only five other Dallas High School athletes have ever achieved this honor, making this a truly special opportunity for the school and its wrestling program. Coach Markee joined three other coaches and a total of 21 athletes — including both boys and girls — from across the United States. Together, they trained with Greek wrestling clubs, competed in matches, and engaged in team-building activities with athletes from different parts of the world. Beyond wrestling, the group toured historical landmarks, sampled local food, and learned about the rich cultural traditions of Greece. “This experience went far beyond the mat,” said Coach Markee. “Our athletes got to represent the United States with pride, build friendships with wrestlers from another country, and experience a culture that’s thousands of years old. It’s something they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives.” For Ramirez, a senior leader and standout on the Dallas squad, this was a capstone to his high school wrestling career. For Langford, an accomplished freshman and this years state champ, it was a well deserved spot being one of 9 state champions on the team. Both athletes demonstrated the character, work ethic, and sportsmanship it takes to earn a place on such a distinguished team. The Dallas High School wrestling program continues to grow in strength and recognition, and opportunities like this highlight the program’s ability to develop not only great athletes, but great ambassadors as well.
